Mr. Halpern has a diverse background in law
Mr. Halpern began his career as a young public defender in 1984, when he progressed from representing children in juvenile cases to ultimately focusing on sexual battery and first degree murder cases. Along the way, he represented clients facing involuntary hospitalization through the Florida Baker Act as well as filing petitions for those illegally detained in a psychiatric hospital. In 1995, Mr. Halpern opened his private practice where he continued his focus on criminal defense.
In the past 30 plus years, he has handled scores of jury trials ranging from misdemeanor offenses to capital murder. Mr. Halpern regularly represents clients charged with violation of probation and matters related to court supervision, with an emphasis on sex offender probation issues. Mr. Halpern has represented clients on appeal in the district court as well as the Florida Supreme Court.
He also handles post-conviction relief matters in both the trial and appellate courts.
